Who builds Henkq

Henkq is built independently in Renkum, the Netherlands, an Apple-focused project shipping native software for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro. It was founded in 2024 with one product in mind: a private reminder app that handles sensitive content with the same care Apple gives to passwords and biometrics.

Henkq is not a data company. It runs no ads, sells no analytics, and builds no profile from the way you plan your day. It exists because its maker wanted a reminder app that treats sensitive plans as seriously as Apple treats passwords and biometrics, and could not find one.

What we believe

A reminder app sees the most honest version of your day. It should reduce noise, not add to it. It should protect the personal items with the same seriousness it gives to the public ones. It should never assume permission to notify you, track you, or upsell you.

From those beliefs, three products grew:

  • Today in three calm moments: Morning, Afternoon, Evening, not an endless list.
  • Protect in one drag, one gesture to move any reminder into a biometric vault.
  • Vault, sensitive reminder text stored in the iOS Keychain.

How Henkq protects your work

  • Keychain storage for sensitive reminder text, never plain database content.
  • Face ID, Touch ID, or Vault PIN as the gate for Vault, with PIN as a guaranteed fallback.
  • On device Smart Suggestions for natural language input, with no external AI server.
  • No Henkq account. Sync runs through your personal iCloud, which Henkq cannot read.
  • No third party SDKs for analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash tracking inside the app.
  • JIT permissions. Notifications are requested only when they would be sent, never upfront.

How we build

Henkq is native SwiftUI, SwiftData, CloudKit, and Keychain. There is no web view, no Electron, no React Native, no third party UI runtime. Every screen uses the platform's own materials, gestures, typography, and haptics. We ship from one Xcode project so iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch, and Vision Pro stay in step.

Why we sync through iCloud, not a Henkq cloud

Henkq deliberately avoids a developer-run sync server. Most cross-device apps ask you to create an account on their cloud so your tasks can follow you. That also means your schedule lives on their servers, subject to their security, their policy changes, and their outages.

Henkq uses your personal iCloud account and Apple's CloudKit instead. Sync stays inside your Apple identity. Henkq never receives readable reminder text. Sensitive Vault titles remain in Keychain; only encrypted references may cross iCloud. The app is offline-first: one device works with no sync at all. iCloud is optional infrastructure for people who want the same Today on every Apple device, not a requirement to use Henkq.

That is different from a purely local app on one phone with no cloud ever. If zero cloud storage is your hard rule, Henkq on a single device without iCloud may still work for you, or a local-only tool may fit better. Henkq is built for the Apple ecosystem with honest, Apple-native sync, not a second cloud owned by us.

Our trade-offs

To stay honest about what Henkq is and is not:

  • Apple only. There is no Android, Windows, or web version of Henkq, and there is no plan for one.
  • Personal use first. Henkq is built for one person's day, not for shared team lists.
  • iCloud for sync, not a Henkq cloud. We sync through Apple, not our own servers. No iCloud? Henkq still works offline on one device. Why we chose iCloud on purpose.
  • Paid after the trial. Henkq Pro is required after the 30 day free trial, so the product is funded by the people who use it, not by advertisers.
