Privacy without friction
Most reminder apps treat privacy as a settings screen. You open a menu, find an option, confirm a dialog, and only then is the sensitive item slightly less visible. By that time you have already typed it in plain text and the cursor has moved on.
Henkq inverts that pattern. The act of protection is a single physical gesture: drag the vault icon on the Today input bar onto the reminder row. The reminder slides into your Vault, the sensitive text moves to the Keychain, and Today carries on as if nothing happened. No confirmation dialog, no menu, no detour.
Drag the vault icon onto a reminder → locked in Vault → hidden from Home Screen widgets and Spotlight.
How to protect a reminder, step by step
- Open Today. Henkq launches on Today by default, showing your Morning, Afternoon, or Evening reminders.
- Find the vault icon. Look at the left of the Today input bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Press and hold. A subtle haptic confirms the gesture has started.
- Drag onto a reminder row. Henkq highlights the target row as you hover.
- Release. The row collapses into the Vault with calm haptics. An undo toast appears for five seconds.
What changes the moment you protect
The protected reminder leaves every public surface in one motion. Inside the Keychain its title and notes are encrypted; outside it shows as a plain Protected Reminder placeholder. The data flow is one direction: out of view, into the vault, until you authenticate.
- Today shows the row as Protected Reminder, with no preview text.
- Home Screen widget never includes the row, even when it is the next item due.
- Spotlight and Siri Suggestions exclude the title and notes.
- iCloud sync carries only the encrypted reference, never the readable text.
- Apple Watch and Vision Pro show the Protected Reminder placeholder, not the content.
When privacy and speed both matter
The gesture is built for the everyday moments where privacy and speed both matter:
- Health and care. Medication times, therapy follow-ups, a referral you do not want previewed on a lock screen.
- Finance and legal. A call about a contract, a tax deadline, an appointment with an advisor.
- Family and relationships. A reservation, a surprise, a conversation reminder that should not flash on a shared iPad.
- Investigative work. Source meetings, document reviews, and briefings, on devices that travel through public spaces. Read more on the journalists page.
Designed to be undone
Every protect gesture shows an undo toast for five seconds. Tap once and the reminder returns to its original list with its original text intact. Henkq treats privacy as a calm, reversible action, not a punishment for mistakes.
Where the gesture is available
The drag gesture is on iPhone and iPad, the devices where reminders are created and edited. On Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro you can view and complete protected reminders after unlocking the Vault. Only iPhone and iPad can start the drag, because the drag gesture lives in the input bar.
